How do you Define Personal Development?

Following on from my last post where I looked at how you define productivity, this post will look at how I define ‘Personal Development’.

Personal Development is a much wider concept than Productivity – in fact, I would say that striving to improve your Productivity is an aspect of Personal Development. What we are talking about here is something that encapsulates what we are trying to do when we read, write, and indulge in Personal Development. I think the following aspects are key to how I use personal development:

1. Begin to understand myself;

2. What am I good at?

3. What could I do with improving at?

4. Which of these things should I improve first?

5. Research a particular area

6. Action my findings

7. Immediate and ongoing assessment of my progress

8. Back to the beginning again

This cycle is an ongoing process that is happening all my waking (and most of my sleeping) hours.

So from this I can pull together what Personal Development means to me. What my definition is. And it is as follows:

Personal Development is the ongoing process of assessment, challenge and improvement of ones own skills, knowledge, and being.

Quite succinct that in the end – which is exactly how I want it to be. Something I can challenge what I read and write with, to keep me on track, and to focus my attention.

What would your personal definition be?
