Personal Development aims to take an individual, provide them with the tools to decide where they want to be, and then support them along the journey to that destination. Corporate Strategy aims to take a business, provide its management with the tools to decide where they want the business to be, and then supports them along the journey to that destination. Peas in a pod really. We all know that the Personal Development industry is massive – estimations are around $10bn per annum, but compare that to the estimated Business Consulting market of almost $400bn per annum.
What am I getting at here? Despite the spohisticated array of Personal Development tools we have at our disposal, we don’t even begin to access those used in the corporate environment; these are tools that have been tried and tested for decades, and have had significantly more money thrown at them! The only obstacles to utilising these tools, models and frameworks are, the need to understand corporate structure and strategy in practice, and the requirement to be able to apply these methodically in a Personal Development context. This is where Half-a-dozen Monkeys comes in!
